Christchurch the garden city of New Zealand is also the city for cyclists with such a focus on making the city cycle friendly.  The bike tracks and bike paths increase all the time.

In 2017 Christchurch took out the inaugural NZ Transport Agency’s annual Favourite Places to Ride competition.
This award was in recognition of the significant investment by the Christchurch City Council and the Government in urban cycle ways.

In many parts of the city cycles are given priority at intersections and the vehicle speed has been reduced to 30km in the city centre to increase safety for people riding.

Although the climate in Christchurch during the winter can mean a lot of bikes stay in the garage during this period, it is also known for crisp clear winters days that sees many a person out on their bicycles enjoying the coastal rides.

With options to hire bikes or purchase along with the growing trend for electric bikes the tourist can enjoy the wider city on two wheels.

It is compulsory to wear a helmet in New Zealand and the same road rules apply to bicycles as to vehicles.

Remember to be considerate to your fellow road users and always be aware of your surroundings. If wanting to admire or look at an attraction be sure to stop over to the left so as not to risk an accident.

Come visit Christchurch to enjoy a true experience.
