Welcome to Alice Cinemas

We opened in 1985 on Hereford Street as Alice in Videoland, a little shop determined to wet the appetites of discriminating film-lovers who were being left hungry by the limited selection at their local video chain. Screeds of cinematic wealth were going to waste, all but unavailable to the public, hidden away in the dark where only the most lucky or determined of cinephiles could reach them. Alice’s brought these films into the light, and became a place celebrating not just the rare and the unusual, but films of all kinds, from all over the world. Our collection today remains second to none, a comprehensive library where foreign films, documentaries, cult and arthouse titles are packed right alongside the best mainstream film has to offer, a library that is ever-growing thanks to the efforts of our knowledgeable staff.

Now known simply as Alice and located in the old Post Office building on Tuam Street, we still provide all the services we’ve become known for, but have been slowly expanding our reaches outward in order to become the ultimate experience for the film-lover in all of us. This began in 2012 with the installation of our first cinema, the Egyptian, finally giving us a platform to show all kinds of new and exciting films that are often passed over by the larger cinemas.
