Travis Wetland walk Christchurch New Zealand.

An easy walk over flat terrain mostly surrounded by trees, bush or the wetlands with plenty of birdlife and spots to stop off and view the wildlife. Travis Wetland covers 116 hectares of previously farmed Christchurch land and drained natural wetland of which the track goes around the outside.

Main entrance from the main car park at Beach Road turn right past the attractive information kiosk "note there are a number of entrance/exits' along the way including across form the Burwood Hospital.
A good gravelled path winds along the edge of the wetland and reaches an alternative entrance off Mairehau Road.

The next section of the track is named Anne Flanagan Walkway after a local personality who campaigned to preserve the wetland. This track offers sweeping views of the wetland and reaches a carpark beside Mairehau Road.

From here the circuit track continues on an easy boardwalk and turns south to wind through groves of trees to reach the observation tower.
The track continues into Clarevale Reserve with its large Children's playground then closely follows the pretty Angelas Stream to the footbridge with its predator gate.

A gravel path comes to a junction with the bird hide track which is two minute walk to a lookout over the ponds. The main perimeter shortly arrives back at the starting point.

A nice pleasant Christchurch walk suitable for all levels of fitness.
